Stevenson Updates



Stevenson Scores Goals as Rays Tie Franchise Records



Columbia, SC Jeremy Stevenson scored the game winning goal and Kirk Daubenspeck made 20 saves as the South Carolina Stingrays won their seventh straight game 3-1 over the Columbia Inferno to improve to 19-14-3 and move into a tie for third place with the Inferno.



“We are rolling right now and I think we caught Columbia without some key players, but a win is a win,” said Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. “Our special teams got it done for us tonight.”


North Charleston, SC Joe Tenute scored two of the South Carolina Stingrays’ four goals and Maxime Daigneault had thirty four saves, leading the Rays to their ninth straight win against the Johnstown Chiefs Saturday afternoon in front of 3,868 fans at the North Charleston Coliseum.



The Stingrays got an early start with Matt Reid scoring the first goal of the game just four and a half minutes into first period. Picking up the assists were Mark Ardelan and Nate Kiser. Johnstown defense Pierre Courchesne scored the Chief’s first goal 18:28 in the period, assisted by Shawn Mather and Steve Hildenbrand.



Less than five minutes into the second period, South Carolina quickly regained the lead as Joe Tenute, with the help of Ed Courtenay and Mark Ardelan, scored the Stingray’s first power play goal of the game. Halfway through the period, Jeremy Stevenson scored the Ray’s second power play goal, with assists from Rich Peverley and Trevor G. Johnson.



Johnstown defense David Bowman scored at the beginning of the third period, with assists by Joe Tallari and Jonathan Tremblay, making the score 3-2. Joe Tenute of the Stingrays fired back two minutes later, regaining the two point lead. He was assisted by Mark Ardelan and Matt Reid.



Trayce’s First String Three Stars of the Game were Joe Tenute, Mark Ardelan, and Nate Kiser.



Saturday’s game tied the Stingray’s own franchise record for most consecutive wins.






The Stingrays went 1-5 on the power play and held the Inferno 0-9 on the man advantage with a short handed goal.



Rich Peverley picked up where he left off in the first period scoring his team leading 16th of the season. With the Stingrays on the penalty kill at 15:57 of the period Matt Reid found Peverley on a two on one and the rookie flipped the puck past Rob McVicar for his eighth goal in five games.



Matt Ullwelling tied the game in the second period for the Inferno when he beat Kirk Daubenspeck with a wrist shot in to the upper left corner at 5:42 of the second period, but the Rays took back the lead with goals from Jeremy Stevenson and Robin Gomez. Stevenson scored a power play goal from between the hash marks at 10:07 and Gomez batted the puck out of mid air over McVicar at 11:05 for his third of the season.



Daubenspeck made the 3-1 lead hold up in the third period with eight saves for the Stingrays to earn his 11th win of the season.
